Windows File Extensions

By file extension we mean the file suffix -- usually a dot followed by three letters or numbers. For example, GEMPACK solution files all have the file extension .SL4 and zip archives have the file extension .ZIP.

It is better to show all the file extensions for GEMPACK since they are used to distinguish different types of files.

To show file extensions,
select the Start button in Windows, then
select Control Panel. In Control panel,
select Folder Options. Near the top of the window,
select View.

Look down the list of options till you find
Hide extensions for known file types.
Make sure that this box is not ticked.
Then click OK.

After this you should be able to see the File extensions such as ZIP in My Computer or Windows Explorer.
