Why Might I Prefer GEMPACK to GAMS for Teaching?

AGEC 620 is a second year graduate course taught to students in the Agricultural Economics and Economics Departments at Purdue University by Professor Thomas W. Hertel (Executive Director of the Center for Global Trade Analysis). This course aims to give students practical, hands-on experience conducting quantitative economic analysis of markets and policy.

To see why Thomas Hertel prefers to use GEMPACK rather than GAMS in this course, and how he explains this to the students in the course, download and view this in the Acrobat Reader.

A site GEMPACK licence, either Source-code or Executable-Image or a combination of these two, would normally be used in teaching.
