If a Sim Job Crashes If a simulation crashes, by default, RunDynam does not stop immediately. Instead, RunDynam tries to complete as many parts of the job as it can. For example, suppose that you have asked to solve all years from 2010 to 2030 for Base, Rerun and Policy. If the Policy simulation for year 2015 crashes, RunDynam still tries to continue the Base and Rerun beyond 2015. For example, this behaviour is desirable if you have set off a long job over night and it crashes during the Policy run but would have been able to complete all of the Base (and perhaps lots of the Rerun). With the new default behaviour, when you arrive in the morning, you will see the Policy error but will hopefully have all the Base completed (even though the Policy error occurred a lot earlier). You have the option of stopping immediately when there is an error via menu item If sim job crashes? in the Run Preferences menu. That item has two alternatives, namely Continue with other parts of job if possible (this is now the default) and Stop immediately. When you are operating under the option "Continue with other parts of job if possible", •You will still be notified when an error occurs. But not via a message dialog (as would happen if you were operating under the "Stop immediately" option). Instead you will see an ERROR message (it will be in red) in the run status part of RunDynam, near the bottom where it tells you which parts of the whole scenario are currently running. •When an error has occurred, you can still stop the rest of the job via the Cancel Job button near the bottom of RunDynam. •If an error occurs, you are told at the end of the run (or after you hit the "Cancel Job" button) which parts of the overall job failed and the names of the Error Log file for these parts. You can copy the message and paste it elsewhere. These Error Log files are then loaded into TABmate so that you can work out the reasons for the crashes. You might also like to use menu item "Where to Start?" under the Tasks menu to check which parts have run ok and which remain to be done. Whichever option you are running under, you may wish to see the results of the parts of the whole scenario which have been run ok. [For example, the results just before the crash may help you to understand the crash.] Remember that you can generate a summary of the result for several years by running the so-called SS job and then looking at the results for these years via ViewSOL or via the Spreadsheet file or via AnalyseGE. In either case you use the "Results for All/Several Years" part of the Results page and use the "Some" button there.
