The RunGTAP concept

RunGTAP is a visual interface to the GTAP model, aimed at the beginner or intermediate GTAP user. It supports various versions of GTAP which are distinguished chiefly by level of aggregation. Most versions use the same executable files, as defined by the files GTAP.TAB and GTAP.STI and other TAB files in the RunGTAP directory. Other versions have their own executable files.

Integral to RunGTAP is a rigid system of file names. Some filenames are fixed: eg, for each version, BASEDATA.HAR contains initial flows data. In other cases particular file extensions or suffixes are compulsory: eg, parameters files must be suffixed PRM. The rigid system makes it possible for the RunGTAP user to handle the plethora of files produced by GEMPACK with relatively little pain.

RunGTAP assumes that your PC is fast relative to the size of the model you wish to solve. Files containing simulation results have only a temporary existence, unless explicitly saved. Normally, only experiment inputs are stored: if you want to see the outputs later, you run the experiment again. Intermediate files, such as LU, EN4, and EQ4 files, are not used. Post-solution programs such as DECOMP and GTAPVol, which are optional outside RunGTAP, are all run for every simulation.
