Derived Elasticities (Partial and General)

The behavioural elasticities (such as demand elasticities) used by GTAP are derived from the data and parameter files stored in each version. Depending on what is imagined to be held constant, either partial equilibrium elasticities or general equilibrium elasticities may be defined. Each may be useful in explaining results, so RunGTAP calculates and stores on file both sets of values for you to look at.

Both sets of elasticities are a function of the base flows data and of the currently selected parameters file. By default, RunGTAP recalculates each whenever the file is missing or seems older than the files from it is derived. For each parameter file (suffixed PRM) there should be a matching file of partial elasticities (suffixed PEL) and a matching file of general equilibrium elasticities (suffixed GEL). Both are HAR files which you can examine with ViewHAR.
