Specifying Subtotals

Each column of subtotals results shows the effect of just some of the shocks on the endogenous variables of the model. To specify a subtotal, you need to indicate which shocks you wish to see the effect of. You do this by indicating (on the Specify Subtotal form) the shocked variables in question.

For example

suppose that in your simulation you are giving shocks to the variables tms (import tariffs), txs (export tariffs) and a0 (technological changes). You may wish to see the effect of the tariff shocks and also of the technological changes shocks. To do so, you would specify two subtotals. For the first one you would indicate the two variables tms and txs. For the second one you would indicate just the variable a0.

suppose that in your simulation you are eliminating import tariffs on all of the 3 commodities food, manufactures and services by shocking all components of the variable tms (import tariffs). You may wish to see the effects of removing these tariffs on the individual commodities. If so you would specify 3 subtotals. For the first you would indicate the food component(s) of tms. For the second and third you would indicate the manufacturing and services components of tms respectively.

After you click on the Define Subtotal button on the Shocks page, you see the Specify Subtotal form (which is similar to the Shocks page). You select the variables (and their components, if relevant) which define the shocks making up those in the subtotals result you are interested. Click on the Add to subtotal button to add each variable to the list of variables for this subtotal Once you have selected all the variables whose shocks make up the current subtotal, click on the Ok button. You will then be asked to give the description for this subtotal.
