XSETS and the CMFSTART file

A number of sets and subsets are declared in the file GTAP.TAB, which defines the GTAP model. The actual membership of these sets, which depends upon aggregation level, is given by the version-specific file SETS.HAR.

It can sometimes be very handy, especially in devising shock statements, to define your own additional sets. For example, you might like to define a set of agricultural commodities or food-importing regions.

You can persuade GEMPACK to let you do this by adding pairs of XSET and XSUBSET statements to the CMFSTART file which is unique to each version [use View...CMFSTART file ]. For example, the CMFSTART file for the version ASA7x5 contains the lines:

XSET AG_COMM # Agric comms # (agric, food) ;

XSUBSET AG_COMM is subset of TRAD_COMM ;

XSET NONAG_COMM = TRAD_COMM - AG_COMM ;

Your new sets will not be visible to RunGTAP until after you next solve the model. Then, you should be able to View..Subsets and Variables to see the new sets listed.
