Cell Colouring

Cell Colouring may be switched on from File..Options if your display has 16-bit colour or better. The purpose of the coloring is to highlight anomalous numbers which might merit further investigation.

The cells are coloured according to a scheme suggested by Robert McDougall. For each cell in the matrix displayed, we define the ratio: R= a/(r.c), where

a is the share of that cell in the whole matrix

r is the share of the corresponding row total in the whole matrix

c is the share of the corresponding column total in the whole matrix

The colors corresponding to each R-value are shown below. Numbers which are bigger than expected are tinted yellow; numbers which are smaller than expected are tinted blue; unexpected negatives are coloured mauve; "boring" numbers are coloured grey.
