Decimal point or Decimal comma

Windows customizes your PC to suit different national conventions, such as the formatting of dates and currency values. You could use Settings...Control Panel...Regional and Language Options to adjust these settings.

In some places commas are used instead of a period or point to separate the fractional part of decimal numbers. Since May 2004, ViewHAR, ViewSOL and the Charter try to follow the conventions set in your Windows environment. However, note the following:

ViewHAR's File...Options command can be used to force ViewHAR (and ViewSOL and the Charter) to use a period rather than a comma even when Windows is set to use a decimal comma. [ViewHAR sets a registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GEMPACK\ForceDecimalPoint. When starting up, ViewHAR, ViewSOL and the Charter consult this registry key.]

the Export...Save screen as CSV file command uses semicolons (instead of commas) to delimit columns if ViewHAR is using the decimal comma.

Non-windows GEMPACK programs (eg, GEMSIM, MODHAR, SLTOHT, and your own TABLO-generated EXE files) always use a period for the decimal point.

the File...Save as...GEMPACK text file command always uses a period as decimal separator, since GEMPACK text files are often read by non-windows GEMPACK programs.

to successfully copy and paste between Excel and ViewHAR, both Excel and ViewHAR must be using the same decimal separator character (ie, both use period or both use comma).

Versions of GEMPACK windows programs (such as ViewHAR and ViewSOL) made before May 2004 always use and expect a decimal period.
