How ViewHAR chooses the way to reduce high dimensional matrices

ViewHAR reduces higher dimensional matrices to 2 dimensions either by summing over one or more dimensions, or by selecting individual 'slices' for viewing. When you click on a 3-dimensional matrix from the Contents screen, ViewHAR must decide how the matrix initially appears. The following rules are applied:

1. First, if you altered the aggregation combo boxes while previously viewing another matrix of the same dimensions, you see the current matrix in the same way.

2. Otherwise, if you previously altered the aggregation combo boxes to select one element (or the sum) of particular sets which also occur in the dimensions of the current matrix, ViewHAR reuses your choices. Rightmost dimensions are aggregated first, until the resulting matrix has 2 or fewer dimensions.

3. If the resulting matrix still has more than 2 dimensions, ViewHAR sums up un-aggregated dimensions, going from right to left.

In other words, ViewHAR tries to guess what you would like to see, on the basis of your previous choices.
