Scalars

A real data item has a number of dimensions:

0 for macro or scalar data

1 for vectors

2 for 2-dimensional matrices

3 for 3-dimensional matrices, and so on.

A vector length 1 is nearly the same as a scalar. Normally, however, you should instead create a true scalar with number of dimensions=0.
