Too Many Columns

ViewHAR is slow to display tables with 5000 or more columns -- although 5000 or more rows causes no problem. For example a table with 12000 rows and 100 columns will display quickly -- while a table with 100 rows and 12000 columns might take a minute or more to display.

To reduce this annoyance, ViewHAR will automatically transpose the view of matrices with a huge number of columns. Similarly, ViewHAR will refuse to transpose a matrix with a huge number of rows. In each case the aim is to avoid an on-screen table with very many columns.

The first time (during each ViewHAR session) that ViewHAR flips the matrix to speed display, there will be a warning message -- but after that the message is suppressed. However, you can tell if the matrix is transposed by looking at the yellow transpose button at the left of the upper tool bar: it is marked with a "T" when transposed view is active.
