Charting

ViewSOL will work with the Charter, a companion program which turns numbers from ViewSOL and ViewHAR into graphs.

To try out the Charter, bring up several columns of numbers in the ViewSOL results window. Then right-click on one of the row labels. The Charter should appear, plotting the row contents. Return to ViewSOL without closing the Charter, and right-click on several more row labels. The Charter should beep to acknowledge receiving the data, without coming back on top. Go back to the Charter and you will see that several more series have been added to the plot. You can play with the options and buttons on the toolbar to alter the appearance of the graph.

The Charter has its own online help, which you will have to read if you want to make good use of it.

A series is added to the Charter each time you right-click on a row or column label. All the series in one chart must have the same length. The Charter gives an error message if you attempt to add a series which has different length to existing series.

You can also right-click on column-labels to add a series, as long as the column is the same length as existing series in the Charter. You might have to delete the existing series and start again.

You can insert numbers from both ViewSOL and ViewHAR into the same chart. For example, you could plot sectoral output results from ViewSOL against capital/labour ratios from ViewHAR.

What if ViewSOL cannot find the Charter ?

Possibility 1: The Charter is a separate program: it may not be installed on your system.

You must have GEMPACK version 6 or above to use the Charter. If you do, download it from the web page at:

Possibility 2: Maybe the Charter is installed on your system in a place where ViewSOL cannot find it. Both ViewSOL and Charter should be installed to your GEMPACK directory (normally C:\GP, and this directory should be on your DOS path (in AUTOEXEC.BAT).
