SOL files and SLI files

Older versions of ViewSOL could not read an SL4 (solution) file directly. Instead they used the GEMPACK program SLTOHTA (pronounced "ess-ell-2-aitch-tee-ay") to turn the SL4 file into matching SOL and SLI files which ViewSOL could read. SOL files are really a type of HAR (header array) file, which you can examine with ViewHAR.

Since September 2004, ViewSOL only uses SOL files when in Time Series mode. The needed SOL and SLI files are pre-computed by the RunDynam program.

You can also open SL4 files directly with ViewHAR -- in this case ViewHAR creates and displays a file very similar to the SOL file made by SLTOHTA.
