Loading and Saving Experiments

Two buttons on the Solve page allow you to record and recall the details of simulations. The details are stored on disk files (suffixed EXP) which contain the current closure, shocks, parameter file, solution method and experiment description. It is intended that you use these facilities to replicate experiments and to exchange them with other modellers.

An EXP file contains:

full details of a closure

full details of shocks

the name of a parameter file

a solution method

a one-line description of the experiment

The Save Experiment button allows you to store current experiment details on disk. Choose an eight-letter name that has not been used already. Say you choose FoodTax. The experiment details will be stored on a file called FoodTax.EXP in the subdirectory of the current version. Edit the Experiment Description on the Solve page, to make it accurate, before saving the experiment.

The best times to save your experiment are just before or straight after solving the model.

Note that the current settings of closure, shocks, parameter file, solution method and experiment description are saved. These might not be the same settings as were used the last time the Solve button was clicked. Solve the model again just before saving an experiment if you are in doubt.

The Load Experiment button recalls experiment details from the file that you select. Note however that this EXP file contains only the instructions needed to run a simulation; it does not contain the solution or other output files generated by a simulation. You have to solve the model again in order to see the results of the experiment.
