Creating a new version based on the current version

You can base a new version on the current version if both versions have the same regions and sectors. There are 3 possible cases:

New core data file of flows is made as byproduct (update) of last simulation

The idea here is that the base data for your new version is the post-simulation data from the last experiment. You should successfully run the experiment just before you create the new version. Then ask the Wizard to use updated database from last simulation. RunGTAP will copy all the other files from the existing version subdirectory.

An important special case of this is the Altertax procedure. In that case your simulation creates an updated database consistent with your desired tax rates. Then you must create a new version that contains this updated flows database.

New core data file of flows is same as existing version

In this case a new version is not essential. One reason to create it would be as a backup (but then File..Version Archive is more appropriate). Another reason might be that you wanted to have a different selection of experiments, closures, parameters or shock files.

If this is what you want, follow the Wizards suggestion of simply copying everything.

Neither of the above

In this case you want to use a core data file of flows which is created in some non-standard way (eg, by directly modifying the existing core data file of flows, BASEDATA.HAR). The best thing to do is to first create a new version which is identical to the current version (choose simply copy everything). After you have finished with the Wizard, modify or replace the file BASEDATA.HAR in the new version subdirectory.
