Copy Screen to ClipBoard

The Export..Copy menu command causes the current window (either Contents or Data) to be copied to the Windows ClipBoard. From there it can be pasted to various programs. For example, you can paste directly into an Excel spreadsheet. You can also paste into Word. In the latter case, a series of items separated by tabs appears in your document; select them all and use Word's Convert Text to Table command.

You can also paste data back into ViewHAR: see Pasting.

Copying of the Data window is affected by the Data Export Options.

When copying real matrices to a spreadsheet, remember that the data copied are only as accurate as those displayed on screen. You may want to increase the number of decimal places before copying.

If you are viewing [a slice or subtotal of] a matrix with 3 or more dimensions, the Copy command copies only the currently visible 2-dimensional view. To export a 3-dimensional matrix to a spreadsheet, you could save the header as a GEMPACK text file.

If you want to copy data directly from one matrix in ViewHAR to another, copy only the main numbers, not labels or totals (see Data Export Options).

You can also use the mouse to copy individual rows or columns of numbers from the Data window. To copy a column, control-click (ie, hold down Ctrl key while clicking left mouse button) on the column heading. To copy a row, control-click on the row label (left-most cell).

See also Exporting Data to a Spreadsheet Program

Problems will arise if Excel is using a decimal comma (as decimal point) while ViewHAR is using a period. See Decimal Point or Decimal Comma.

If data view has been sorted using column or row sorting, a warning will be shown that data will be exported in current sort order and that data cannot be pasted back from clipboard in this sort order.
